Prayagraj, 2 Oct (HS): The ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Pakhwada-2026’ held over North Central Railway from September 17 to October 2, 2026, concluded today. The event Celebrated as the observance of ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ and the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.

Additional General Manager Shri Rajkumar Wankhede was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony held at the headquarters. The program began with a warm welcome extended to the chief guest by Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri Anil Kumar Dwivedi, who presented him with a sapling. Subsequently, the Additional General Manager administered the cleanliness pledge to all the officers and staff present. All attendees paid humble tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri by garlanding their portraits.

Under the able guidance and directives of General Manager Shri Naresh Pal Singh, a special tree plantation drive is being conducted across the zone for environmental conservation. On this occasion, a massive tree plantation drive was carried out at the headquarters under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign. North Central Railway has. marched ahead eyeing the ambitious target of planting 2 crore saplings in current financial year 2026-27—a goal set by the General Manager—demonstrating the railway's commitment to the environment and cleanliness.

During this fortnight-long campaign, held under the chairmanship of General Manager Shri Naresh Pal Singh, a total of 4,770 programs and activities were successfully organized across the five key pillars mandated by the Railway Board.

Regarding the transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and the sanitation of public areas, the Zone identified 14,837 CTUs—surpassing the Railway Board's target of 3,500—and successfully transformed over 12,246 of them into clean spaces.

To raise awareness about cleanliness among the youth, 555 'Swachhata Pathshalas' (cleanliness awareness sessions) were organized. Additionally, 116 safety camps were held to ensure the welfare and safety of sanitation workers.

To ensure public participation in cleanliness drives, 837 'Jan Bhagidari' (public participation) programs were conducted, with approximately 55,000 people actively taking part.

Under the 'Swachhata Se Samriddhi' (Cleanliness to Prosperity) initiative, 284 programs were organized.

Furthermore, 124 special cleanliness programs were held to mark World Tourism Day (September 27).

The entire cleanliness fortnight and the concluding event were successfully and systematically executed by the Headquarters Environment & Housekeeping Section under the leadership of Shri Manish Kumar.
