New Delhi, 02 October (H.S.): Domestic stock markets are closed today on account of Gandhi Jayanti. With Saturday and Sunday following the public holiday, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) will remain closed for three consecutive days. Normal trading will resume on October 5.

The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) is also observing a complete trading holiday today on account of Gandhi Jayanti. No trading will take place in either the daytime or evening session. Consequently, the commodity exchange will also remain closed for three consecutive days, with normal trading resuming on October 5.

According to information provided by the stock exchanges, the BSE is observing a trading holiday today across the equity segment, equity derivatives segment, currency derivatives segments, New Debt Segment—Reporting, Settlement and Trading Platform (NDS-RST), and tri-party repo. Trading in Electronic Gold Receipts (EGR) and the commodity derivatives segment will also remain suspended during both trading sessions.

Similarly, the NSE is observing a holiday across all major segments on account of Gandhi Jayanti. These include equities, equity derivatives, corporate bonds, the New Debt Segment, the Negotiated Trade Reporting Platform, mutual funds, the Securities Lending and Borrowing Scheme (SLBS), currency derivatives, commodity derivatives and interest-rate derivatives.

According to the stock market holiday calendar, the markets will remain closed on October 20 for Dussehra following today's Gandhi Jayanti holiday. The next market holiday will be on November 10 on account of Balipratipada, followed by a holiday on November 24 for Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gurpurab. In December, the stock markets will remain closed on December 25 for Christmas.

Diwali will be celebrated on November 8 this year, which falls on a Sunday. Since the festival falls on a weekend, it has not been included as a regular trading holiday in the stock market holiday calendar. However, the stock market will conduct the traditional Muhurat Trading session on Diwali despite the festival falling on Sunday. The timings for Muhurat Trading will be announced at a later date.
