Kolkata, 02 October (H.S.) : In a notable political development, veteran musician and former Trinamool Congress (TMC) parliamentarian Kabir Suman has publicly praised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led West Bengal government for its prompt administrative delivery and responsiveness to civic issues. Commending the state administration for paying close attention to local neighborhoods and maintaining cleanliness, Suman specifically lauded Tollygunge MLA Papiya Adhikary for swiftly addressing a civic hazard in his locality.
In a video statement shared on social media, Suman recounted a recent incident near his residence in Ward 100 under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. He explained that a tall tree adjacent to his home posed a significant safety hazard, threatening overhead power lines during squalls. Unable to establish contact with the local municipal councillor, Suman obtained MLA Papiya Adhikary's contact details from an acquaintance and messaged her via WhatsApp, despite having no prior personal acquaintance with the legislator.
According to Suman, the MLA responded without delay and initiated prompt remedial measures. The administration dispatched a specialized hydraulic ladder vehicle to trim the tree, cleared the fallen branches and foliage immediately, and restored non-functional streetlights in the area overnight.
Expressing satisfaction over the swift civic intervention, Suman noted that the new dispensation has been visibly attentive to grassroots public concerns. He remarked that waste is no longer left piling up on streets, and basic civic amenities such as electricity and water supply are being maintained reliably, adding that citizens expect and appreciate such functional governance.
Sharing Suman's video message across her social media handles, MLA Papiya Adhikary wrote that this level of public responsiveness reflects the reason behind the change in government, asserting that the party remains committed to citizen-centric public service.
Suman’s public appreciation marks a significant shift, as he was historically known as a close associate of Mamata Banerjee during the Trinamool Congress's rise to power and was elected as a TMC Member of Parliament from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency in 2009. Having previously been a sharp critic of the BJP, his acknowledgment of the current administration's prompt civic delivery has drawn considerable attention across the state's political landscape.
