Kokrajhar (Assam), 02 October (HS): The Kokrajhar district administration has lodged an FIR in connection with a food poisoning incident at the hostel of the Central Institute of Technology (CIT), Balajan, in which more than 50 girl students fell ill on September 26.
Additional Magistrate Krishan Jyoti Deka filed the FIR at Kokrajhar Sadar Police Station on Thursday following an inquiry ordered by the district administration into the incident. The action was taken based on findings contained in the inquiry report.
Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Pankaj Chakravarty told the media on Thursday night that the administration had ordered an investigation after more than 50 students fell ill and were hospitalised following the suspected food poisoning incident.
Based on the findings of the inquiry, the district administration lodged the FIR and directed police to register a case and initiate a detailed investigation.
Chakravarty said the FIR was filed to ensure action against anyone found responsible for the incident. He added that the police investigation would cover all aspects of the matter and incorporate all facts that emerge during the probe.
The Deputy Commissioner said indications of negligence had surfaced at CIT. He alleged that despite repeated complaints from the students, the concerned authorities at the institute had allegedly failed to pay adequate attention to the issue.
The administration said the services of the contractor responsible for supplying food at CIT had already been terminated. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the police investigation.------------
