
Guwahati, 02 October (HS): Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and extended his greetings to the people.
In a social media post, Sarma said the nation was respectfully remembering Mahatma Gandhi, describing him as a great human being whose ideals continue to inspire society.
The Chief Minister said the country was moving towards a new era inspired by Gandhi’s vision of Swadeshi and self-reliance, with efforts focused on ensuring that the benefits of development reach the last person in society.
He also highlighted the allocation of more than Rs 525 crore by the Finance Commission in 2025 for panchayats in Assam, saying the funds would help strengthen welfare measures at the grassroots level.
Sarma said the government would continue working towards making villages and panchayats stronger and more self-reliant, drawing inspiration from Gandhi’s ideals.----------
