Konni, 02 Oct (H.S.): UDF convenor Adoor Prakash on Friday stood by his criticism of Chief Minister V D Satheesan, saying his remarks reflected personal experience and were made without seeking support from any Congress leader.
Speaking to reporters, Prakash said he would convey his concerns to the All India Congress Committee within two or three days. Since the AICC had appointed him UDF convenor, briefing the leadership was both his duty and responsibility, he said.
Prakash clarified that he did not oppose the allocation of the Administrative Reforms Commission chairmanship to the Muslim League. His objection concerned the absence of collective consultation on such decisions.
He said he had no objection to positions being given to M K Muneer or Devarajan, describing both as senior leaders who had worked sincerely to bring the UDF to power.
“Such matters should have been discussed collectively. That is what I said in my capacity as UDF convenor,” he explained.
Expressing concern over the infrequency of alliance meetings, Prakash said the UDF had met only once in four months and had not convened subsequently. The Chief Minister’s busy schedule or other factors could have contributed to this, he added.
Despite his criticism, Prakash maintained that he had no dispute with the Chief Minister and that there was no conflict involving the UDF or Congress.
He said he had already expressed everything he wished to say on Thursday and had nothing further to add.
Asked whether he was emerging as a corrective voice within the party, Prakash said reporters could interpret his position as they wished.
He also denied contacting K C Venugopal or seeking anyone’s backing.
Responding to criticism from K Muraleedharan, Prakash said the reasons should be sought from Muraleedharan himself. Questions about Satheesan’s alleged reluctance to criticise the BJP should be addressed to the Chief Minister, he added.
