Banda, 2 Oct (HS): The five-day protest by Akhil Bharatiya

Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Mahavidyalaya, Banda,

ended on Thursday after the district administration gave a written, time-bound

assurance on the students’ demands. The District Magistrate personally met the

ABVP karyakartas and assured action on key issues, including the opening of the

women’s hostel, repair of dilapidated buildings, improvement of sanitation and

classrooms, campus beautification, sports facilities and construction of a boundary

wall.

According to the written assurance, the women’s hostel is to

be made operational by November 1, administrative and other committees are to

be constituted by October 4, and the college timetable is to be displayed by

October 7. Sanitation and classroom arrangements are scheduled to be completed

by October 17, while campus cleanliness and beautification are to be undertaken

by October 25. Inspection of sports equipment and necessary action have been

given a deadline of November 3, while the sports ground boundary wall is to be

constructed within three months. On the fifth day of the protest, the District

Magistrate received the ABVP memorandum in the presence of the Superintendent

of Police, Additional District Magistrate, Regional Higher Education Officer

and City Magistrate, and assured the karyakartas that the issues raised would

be addressed within the stipulated timelines. The ABVP had raised several

demands concerning the functioning and infrastructure of the college, including

the operationalisation of the women’s hostel, repair of dilapidated college

buildings, construction of a boundary wall around the sports ground, inspection

and availability of sports equipment, provision of essential books in the

library, campus cleanliness and beautification, sanitation facilities for

students, and regular conduct of classes.

ABVP Banda District Convenor Kartikeya Gupta said,

ABVP had been carrying out a peaceful five-day protest seeking resolution

of the basic and academic issues faced by students at the college. The protest

has been concluded after the administration provided a written, time-bound

assurance on the demands. Assurance has been given for timely action on all

issues, including the operationalisation of the women’s hostel, classroom and sanitation

facilities, campus beautification, sports facilities, library resources and

construction of the boundary wall. ABVP expects the assured works to be

completed within the stipulated timelines and will continue to extend necessary

cooperation and maintain dialogue in the interest of the students.
