He served as the Union Home Minister from 1998 to 2004 and as Deputy Prime Minister from 2002 to 2004 in the government led by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
In recognition of his contribution to public life, Advani was conferred the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 2024.
