Mysuru, 19 Oct (H.S.): Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje has alleged that threats were made to force Siddaramaiah to resign, and demanded a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into Karnataka’s sting operation controversy.
Speaking at a breakfast programme organised for mahouts, kavadis and their families associated with the Dasara elephant contingent at the Mysuru Palace premises, Karandlaje accused the Congress government of allowing blackmail and intimidation to influence political affairs.
She claimed that reports were circulating about Siddaramaiah being threatened with the aim of securing his resignation. Describing the allegations as a blot on Karnataka, she said the controversy required an immediate and thorough investigation.
However, the Union Minister did not identify those allegedly responsible for the threats or disclose evidence supporting her claim during the remarks cited.
“There is a blackmail government in the State. They are governing through blackmail within their own party and government,” Karandlaje alleged.
She further alleged that sting operations, misuse of authority and threats involving CDs were being used to gain political power. Such practices, she said, were damaging Karnataka’s reputation and raising questions among people outside the State.
“People from other States are asking what is happening in Karnataka. This brings credit to nobody,” she said, urging the government to treat the controversy seriously.
Karandlaje demanded an SIT investigation to establish who was behind the alleged operations and whether the material involved had been used to intimidate political figures.
Those found responsible for blackmail or intimidation should face stringent punishment, she said.
Addressing the Chief Minister, Karandlaje urged him to act swiftly, saying questions were being raised about the government’s handling of the issue.
Her remarks added to the political controversy surrounding the alleged sting operations. The account provided did not include a response from the Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah or the Congress to the allegations made by her.
