Imphal, 19 October (HS): At least two people were killed and three others injured after suspected armed miscreants opened an attack at Nongshum, Khongbal Thangkhul, near the boundary between Manipur’s Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts on Monday morning.

The incident occurred at around 9.40 am when the victims had reportedly gone to the hill area to collect firewood. The injured were subsequently rushed to a hospital in Imphal for medical treatment.

Following the attack, security personnel rushed to the area and initiated necessary measures. However, details regarding the motive behind the incident and the identities of the suspected attackers were not immediately available.

The incident also sparked protests, with local residents taking to the streets to condemn the killings and express their outrage over the attack.

The latest violence has renewed concerns over the security situation in Manipur, which has witnessed intermittent incidents of violence since ethnic clashes erupted in the state in May 2023.------------
