New Delhi, 19 October (H.S.): The judicial custody of two leaders of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has been extended by two days in connection with a protest at Jantar Mantar. Special Executive Magistrate (SEM) ordered the extension of the custody of Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.

The two CJP leaders have been in custody since October 14. On Monday, Delhi Police produced them before the SEM court and sought a five-day extension of their judicial custody. However, the magistrate ordered that their custody be extended by only two days.

Delhi Police has registered two separate FIRs against 14 CJP members at two police stations in connection with the incident. The cases have been registered at Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations.

According to the police, on October 13, 2026, the CJP members entered the restricted Jantar Mantar area through a private premises and obstructed police personnel from performing their duties. Delhi Police initiated preventive action against Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka and Ajinkya Shinde.

All three were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate. Subsequently, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were remanded to five days of judicial custody, while Ajinkya Shinde was bound over on a personal bond of Rs 5,000 to maintain peace for six months.

Delhi Police has removed Jantar Mantar from its list of officially designated protest venues, meaning demonstrations are no longer permitted there under the revised arrangement. The CJP leaders staged the protest to oppose this decision.
