New Delhi, 19 October (H.S.): Neha Bora, national president of the All India Students’ Association (AISA), has approached the Delhi High Court challenging a notice issued by the Delhi Police. In her petition, Bora has contested an order directing her to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000 and requiring her to maintain peace.
The Delhi High Court is currently closed for the Dussehra vacation and is scheduled to reopen on October 26. Bora’s legal team may seek an urgent hearing during the court holidays.
On October 18, the Delhi Police issued a notice directing Bora to appear before a Special Executive Magistrate on October 19. The notice required her, under Section 126 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), to furnish a personal bond of Rs 10,000 with one surety to maintain peace during the investigation against her.
Bora was taken into preventive custody near Mandi House on October 16 while she was on her way to participate in the ‘Lahra Do Tiranga’ march organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP). The Delhi Police released her on the morning of October 17.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke was also taken into preventive custody under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The Delhi Police cited apprehensions of a breach of peace as the reason for his detention.
The Special Executive Magistrate ordered Dipke’s release on a peace bond of Rs 50,000. Under the terms of the bond, he is required to maintain peace for one year.
