Mumbai, 18 October (H.S.): Bollywood superstar Salman Khan shared an interesting anecdote about his parents, Salim Khan and Salma Khan, during the Weekend Ka Vaar episode of the reality show ‘Bigg Boss 20’. He revealed that his maternal grandfather did not speak to Salim Khan for nearly five years after his marriage to Salma.

According to Salman, the disagreement was not rooted in religious differences but in his grandfather’s concerns about Salim Khan’s uncertain career prospects at the time. Salim was struggling to establish himself in the film industry, and Salman’s grandfather was worried about how his daughter’s future would unfold with a man who was still trying to make a career as an actor.

Salman recalled that his maternal grandfather maintained his distance from Salim for a long time after the wedding. However, relations gradually began to improve following the birth of Salman’s younger brother, Sohail Khan. Salman said his grandfather eventually travelled from Mahim to Bandra carrying a box of jalebis to visit the family. The meeting marked an important step towards bridging the divide between the two families.

Salman also recalled that his grandfather later regretted allowing the estrangement to continue for so long, saying that his resentment had prevented him from watching his grandchildren grow up.

The actor further revealed that his grandfather had told his mother, Salma, that the doors of her parental home would always remain open to her, but she should not return after quarrelling with her husband.

During the conversation, Salman also spoke about Salim Khan’s second marriage to actress Helen and her place within the family. Salim and Salma have five children: Salman, Arbaaz, Sohail, Alvira and Arpita Khan. Salim later married Helen.

According to Salman, his mother, Salma, accepted Helen into the family, and over time, the children also grew close to her. Helen is now an integral part of the Khan family.
