Complains to senior police officers, alleges threats, criminal conspiracy and defamation; seeks constitution of SIT
Chandigarh, 18 October (H.S.): Former Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Mohammad Mustafa has approached senior police officials, alleging a threat to his life and the safety of his family. He has accused a resident of Malerkotla of issuing threats, engaging in criminal conspiracy and defaming him. Mustafa has sought the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the matter.
The complaint is being examined by the City-1 police station under the supervision of Malerkotla Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh. The facts and circumstances behind the alleged threats will become clear only after the investigation.
Mustafa served in the Punjab Police during the period of militancy in the state. His family came into the spotlight after his son, Aqeel Akhtar, died under suspicious circumstances at his residence in Panchkula in October 2025. Subsequently, Shamshuddin Chaudhary, a resident of Malerkotla, filed a complaint with the Panchkula police.
In April 2026, the Malerkotla police registered an FIR in an alleged defamation case following a complaint by Mustafa.
Now, in his latest complaint, the former DGP has expressed concerns over the safety of himself and his family and urged the police to take appropriate action.
As Mustafa has sought the formation of an SIT, the police are examining the allegations made in the complaint and the available evidence. Further details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
