Guwahati, 18 October (HS): An eviction operation resumed in Assam’s Lutumari Reserved Forest in Nagaon district on Sunday, targeting around 600 families allegedly occupying 314 hectares of forest land across several locations.

The drive is being conducted under the Kampur Regional Forest Division, with the Forest Department and district administration making arrangements from early morning. A large number of police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order during the operation.

The eviction exercise covers Longjap Padumoni, Matikhola, Kheroni, Sankhola and Kandapara, where families residing within the reserved forest area are facing displacement.

The latest operation comes a day after authorities evicted 336 families from the Barpani forest area under the same regional forest division on Saturday.

Lutumari Reserved Forest has witnessed several major eviction drives in the past. On November 29, 2025, around 1,700 families in Bederipar, Jadupur, Amdubi and Longjap Kheroni were affected by an eviction operation conducted under the Lutumari forest range.

The ongoing drive is part of the administration’s efforts to remove alleged encroachments and reclaim reserved forest land.------------
