Mumbai, 17 October (H.S.): Yami Gautam’s supernatural comedy ‘Nayyi Navelli’ has taken the lead over Rajkummar Rao-starrer ‘Prahaar’ on its opening day at the box office. Both films began their theatrical runs with modest collections, but ‘Nayyi Navelli’ recorded higher earnings on Friday.
According to Sacnilk’s early estimates, ‘Nayyi Navelli’ collected Rs 3.25 crore in domestic net earnings on its first day, with screenings across 6,281 shows nationwide. Its worldwide collection was reported at Rs 4.58 crore.
Meanwhile, the courtroom drama ‘Prahaar’ earned Rs 2.35 crore in domestic collections on its opening day, with 4,133 shows across the country. These initial figures placed ‘Nayyi Navelli’ ahead of its competitor. However, both films will need to sustain audience interest and build momentum over the coming days to strengthen their box-office performance.
The two Hindi releases are also facing competition from South Indian films. According to the figures cited in the initial reports, Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘Ranabaali’ collected Rs 9.25 crore on its opening day, while Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer 2’ reportedly crossed Rs 200 crore in worldwide collections within two days.
Critical and audience responses to ‘Nayyi Navelli’ have been mixed, with some reviews pointing to weaknesses in its writing and execution. ‘Prahaar’, meanwhile, has reportedly received positive reviews from critics, although its opening-day earnings remained relatively modest.
The weekend collections will be important for both films, as audience feedback and box-office trends over the next few days will help determine whether they can improve their theatrical performance.
