New Delhi, 17 October (H.S.): Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals have appointed Sri Lankan pace-bowling great Chaminda Vaas as their bowling coach ahead of the 2027 season. Vaas will replace Munaf Patel, who has held the position for the past two seasons. The franchise announced his appointment through a post on social media.
In a post on X, Delhi Capitals wrote, “A World Cup winner and one of Sri Lanka’s finest. Welcome to Tiger Territory, Coach.”
One of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated cricketers, Vaas made significant contributions with both bat and ball during his international career. He is Sri Lanka’s third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, with 355 wickets in 111 matches. In One-Day Internationals, he ranks second among Sri Lanka’s leading wicket-takers, having claimed 400 wickets in 322 matches. Vaas also scored 3,089 runs in Test cricket and 2,025 runs in ODIs.
Vaas will join Delhi Capitals’ revamped coaching staff under head coach Sourav Ganguly. The franchise recently appointed former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as its assistant coach and batting coach for IPL 2027. His appointment was announced on Tuesday.
Following his appointment, Yuvraj expressed enthusiasm about beginning a new chapter with Delhi Capitals. He referred to his longstanding association with the franchise and said he was pleased to work alongside Sourav Ganguly in a coaching capacity.
Yuvraj said, “I am excited to begin a new chapter of my life with Delhi Capitals. I have a longstanding association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me. I am also looking forward to reuniting with Dada, but this time we will be working together as coaches. Coaching is something I am genuinely passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this exceptionally talented team. I am confident that this will be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”
