SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami Meets Jhota’s Family

Announces ₹5 Lakh Aid for Each Injured Youth and Langar Facilities for Protesters

Chandigarh, 17 October (H.S.): The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has announced that a portrait of Bhai Parvinder Singh Jhota, who lost his life while fighting to protect Punjab’s younger generation from drug abuse, will be put at the Central Sikh Museum. SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami made the announcement on Saturday during a meeting with Jhota’s father, Bhim Singh.

Dhami said the Sikh community would always remember Jhota’s sacrifice and stressed that carrying forward his fight against drugs was the need of the hour. He assured the family that the SGPC stood firmly with them and would extend all possible assistance.

After meeting the youths who were injured in the incident and enquiring about their well-being, Dhami announced financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each for the injured. He added that if they wished, the SGPC would arrange their treatment at Sri Guru Ram Das Medical College in Amritsar and bear the entire medical expenditure.

Dhami said the installation of Jhota’s portrait at the Central Sikh Museum would serve as a lasting tribute to his struggle and his commitment to protecting the younger generation from drugs.

The SGPC president also offered to create fixed deposits of ₹10 lakh each in the names of Jhota’s two children and take responsibility for their upbringing. However, Bhim Singh declined the financial assistance for his family, saying that, by the grace of God, they were self-reliant.

Dhami further announced that the SGPC would continue providing langar to devotees and supporters participating in the ongoing protest demanding justice. Arrangements for toilets and other essential facilities would also be made at the protest site.

He said the SGPC stood with the bereaved family during this difficult time and would respect any directions given by them. Expressing his condolences, Dhami said the family’s grief was difficult to put into words, but Sikh institutions had a duty to stand by families in times of tragedy and ensure that they did not feel alone.
