New Delhi, October 16 (H.S.): Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) chief Abhijeet Dipke and All India Students’ Association (AISA) national president Neha Bora were detained on Friday ahead of the proposed ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march from Central Park in Connaught Place, New Delhi.

Before taking Dipke into custody, Delhi Police visited the place where he was staying and served him a notice directing him not to proceed with the march. Despite the notice, Dipke set out to participate in the proposed tricolour rally in Delhi and was subsequently detained. Neha Bora was detained from Mandi House.

According to police officials, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) is in force in the New Delhi area to maintain law and order. The provision prohibits demonstrations, marches and the assembly of crowds without prior permission.

A day earlier, Dipke had appealed to his supporters to gather at Central Park in Connaught Place at 5 p.m. on Friday to participate in the tricolour march. Following the announcement, the number of security personnel already deployed in the area was further increased. More than 11,000 security personnel have been deployed in Connaught Place and its surrounding areas. In view of the proposed march, the Delhi Traffic Police has also drawn up a plan to divert traffic along 21 major routes.

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by its Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj, took out a tricolour march from the party headquarters. The procession was attended by party MLAs, councillors and workers.

It is noteworthy that the CJP, Left parties, other opposition parties and student organisations have been among the principal groups involved in the protest. They are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the immediate suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
