New Delhi, October 16 (H.S.): The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has begun distributing printers across its 1,500 schools. A robotics laboratory was also inaugurated at an MCD school in Tagore Garden on Friday. In another initiative to connect students with modern technology and digital education, a ‘Science on Wheels’ van equipped with 60 laptops has been launched. These initiatives aim to modernise teaching in municipal schools and provide students with new opportunities in science, technology and innovation.
Under the guidance of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, with the support of Mayor Pravesh Wahi and under the leadership of Education Committee Chairman Advocate Yogesh Verma, efforts are being made to expand digital education and provide modern teaching resources in MCD schools. The printer distribution initiative is being undertaken with the support of IDBI Bank. The printers will help teachers prepare question papers, study materials and other educational documents more efficiently.
The robotics laboratory established at the MCD school in Tagore Garden will give students an opportunity to gain practical knowledge of robotics, coding and scientific concepts. A special strategy is also being developed to extend the benefits of the museum established at the school to a larger number of students, with the aim of encouraging scientific curiosity and creativity among children.
The ‘Science on Wheels’ van will visit various MCD schools according to a scheduled programme. Equipped with 60 laptops, the van will familiarise students with digital resources and provide practical exposure to technology. The initiative is expected to help extend modern learning facilities to students across different municipal schools.
Several projects have also been proposed for the financial year 2026–27 under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives of public sector undertakings to improve basic facilities in MCD schools and public spaces. According to the available information, National Fertilizers Limited (NFL) plans to provide 350 tree guards, 100 three-seater iron benches, nine water coolers and nine reverse osmosis (RO) units. The proposed cost of these facilities is Rs 20 lakh.
Similarly, 250 three-seater iron benches are planned to be provided with the support of Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL), at a proposed cost of Rs 25 lakh. Hindustan Urvarak and Rasayan Limited (HURL) has proposed to provide 20 water coolers and 20 RO units, at an estimated cost of Rs 13 lakh. These projects will be implemented in accordance with the relevant approvals and prescribed timelines. They aim to promote access to clean drinking water, improve seating facilities and create greener surroundings.
Education Committee Chairman Advocate Yogesh Verma said the committee was committed to ensuring that every child studying in an MCD school received quality education, access to modern technology and better educational facilities. He said initiatives such as printer distribution, robotics laboratories and the ‘Science on Wheels’ van would provide students with new learning opportunities.
Verma emphasised that education should not be restricted to textbook-based learning. He said it was essential to provide students with the resources needed to gain practical technological knowledge and develop their talents. He added that expanding modern facilities in municipal schools, equipping teachers with the necessary resources and creating a better learning environment for students were among the Education Committee’s key priorities. Work in this direction would continue in coordination with the municipal corporation and its partner organisations.
