New Delhi, October 16 (H.S.): Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi visited households in Prashant Vihar in the north-western part of the capital on Friday under the Seva Sankalp campaign to raise public awareness about waste segregation. During the visit, he distributed approximately 70 dustbins among residents.

While distributing the dustbins, Wahi appreciated residents who segregate household waste and said that Delhi could soon become a clean, hygienic and beautiful city if every citizen fulfilled their responsibilities towards cleanliness. He added that the initiative would be extended to households in every locality.

The Mayor said wet household waste should be placed in green dustbins and dry waste in blue ones. He explained that segregating waste at source makes recycling easier and reduces the need to transport waste to landfill sites for disposal. He also familiarised residents with the four Rs of waste recycling.

Wahi said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi was continuously working towards making the capital a clean and attractive city. Alongside strengthening sanitation arrangements, the civic body was placing special emphasis on raising public awareness about cleanliness and encouraging greater community participation.

He said the vision of a clean, beautiful and garbage-free Delhi could be realised only when elected representatives, officials, sanitation workers and citizens worked together and fulfilled their respective responsibilities. He appealed to residents to cooperate with the civic body in maintaining cleanliness in their neighbourhoods, dispose of waste only at designated locations and actively participate in keeping public spaces clean.

Representatives of resident welfare associations (RWAs), BJP ward-level workers and Municipal Corporation of Delhi employees were present on the occasion.
