Eggs Found on Hyderabad Temple Premises During Navaratri; Police Deployed

Hyderabad, 16 October (H.S.): Tension prevailed at Sri Kanaka Durga Temple in Mehdipatnam on Friday after eggs were found scattered across the temple premises, including on its gopuram, during the ongoing Navaratri celebrations. Police were deployed at the temple following concerns among devotees and Hindu organisations.

According to the Sri Kanaka Durga Seva Samithi, the incident occurred on Thursday evening while devotees were attending a religious programme. Eggs were found at several places inside the temple premises, including on the gopuram, the temple's ornamental entrance tower.

The organisers alleged that some eggs had fallen on women devotees attending the programme. The women were reportedly frightened and did not raise the issue immediately. The matter came to wider attention on Friday morning when devotees noticed eggs scattered around the premises.

The incident prompted protests, with videos shared on social media showing people raising slogans, including Jai Shri Ram and Police down down. The temple committee appealed to members of the Hindu community, including the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, to visit the temple and extend their support.

Navaratri celebrations have been underway at the temple for the past five days. The organisers said they had not been able to determine where the eggs came from or who was responsible. The identity of those involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unknown.
