New Delhi, 16 October (H.S.): Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of her personality rights. Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav has directed that the petition be listed for hearing on October 29.
During the hearing on Friday, the court asked Sanon’s counsel, Praveen Anand, to place on record previous judicial decisions concerning the High Court’s jurisdiction over disputes involving personality rights and intellectual property rights.
The court observed that cases seeking protection of personality rights were increasing and said it was necessary to examine the question of jurisdiction.
In her petition, Sanon has sought directions to prevent the unauthorised use of content associated with her personality. She has alleged that photographs, voice recordings and similar content resembling her have been uploaded to social media platforms without her permission.
The Delhi High Court has previously passed orders protecting the personality rights of several prominent public figures. Those who have obtained such protection include actress and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut; former bureaucrat and Drishti IAS founder Vikas Divyakirti; actresses Khushi Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor, Tabu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kajol, Aishwarya Rai and Jaya Bachchan; and cricketers Yuvraj Singh, Abhishek Sharma and former India captain Sunil Gavaskar.
The list also includes actor and MP Ravi Kishan, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, actors Arjun Kapoor, Allu Arjun, Mohanlal, Gautam Gambhir, Vivek Oberoi, Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Nagarjuna; spiritual speaker Aniruddhacharya; Patanjali Ayurved's Acharya Balkrishna; yoga guru Baba Ramdev; Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan; journalist Sudhir Chaudhary; Art of Living Foundation founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar; actor Abhishek Bachchan; and film producer Karan Johar.
The court’s earlier orders have restricted the unauthorised use of material associated with these individuals, including content linked to their identities and public personas.
