New Delhi, 15 October (H.S.): Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar has filed a counter-affidavit in response to contempt petitions alleging a violation of the Supreme Court’s October 9 order, tendering an unconditional apology before the court.
The petitions concern several issues, including the closure of 12 metro stations during protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
According to the petitioners, the Supreme Court, in its October 9 order, had directed that there should be no blanket restrictions on metro and railway services or public movement. Despite the order, restrictions were allegedly imposed, prompting the filing of a contempt petition on October 10.
The petitioners alleged that the authorities had failed to comply with the court’s directions, thereby committing contempt of court. In his counter-affidavit, the Delhi Police Commissioner has sought to address the allegations and tendered an unconditional apology before the Supreme Court.
