New Delhi, 15 October (H.S.): Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that a sustained crackdown on drug networks in Assam has resulted in the arrest of 945 people and the seizure of narcotics worth more than Rs 182 crore. He praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state police for their action against drug-related activities.

In a post on the social media platform X on Thursday, Amit Shah said that 547 cases had been registered as part of the ongoing operations in Assam. In addition, action had been taken against 703 vulnerable locations linked to drug-related activities, while proceedings were underway to attach assets worth approximately Rs 31 crore.

The Home Minister said that, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a drug-free India, the government’s priorities included dismantling drug networks, targeting their financial foundations and protecting young people from substance abuse. He emphasised that the fight against narcotics would continue with unwavering resolve.

Amit Shah also said that the Vision Document on Drug Control for 2026–29 reaffirmed the commitment to eliminating drug networks, weakening their financial base and safeguarding young people. The action taken in Assam forms part of the broader efforts under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (Drug-Free India Campaign) to curb drug trafficking and the illicit narcotics trade.
