New Delhi, 15 October (H.S.): Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary and MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra met the family of Ankita Bhandari, who were staging a protest at India Gate on Wednesday. Both leaders expressed their support for the family’s demand for justice.
Ankita Bhandari, a 19-year-old woman from Uttarakhand, was murdered in September 2022 at a resort near Rishikesh. Resort owner Pulkit Arya and two of his employees were convicted in connection with the case. However, the family has been demanding a fair and impartial investigation into the alleged involvement of a “VIP” in the matter.
The family is also protesting against the appointment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dushyant Kumar Gautam as the Governor of Sikkim. The family members have demanded that his appointment be put on hold until the investigation into the alleged VIP angle is completed.
The Congress has questioned the central government and the BJP over the issue and called for justice for the family. The family’s principal demand remains an impartial investigation into the alleged VIP angle and the disclosure of answers to all outstanding questions surrounding the case.
