Guwahati, 15 October (HS): Guwahati Police has issued a set of strict guidelines for Durga Puja celebrations in the city, focusing on noise control, security arrangements, crowd management and road safety to ensure the festival passes off peacefully.
According to the guidelines, Puja committees will not be allowed to play loud music through microphones after 10 pm. They must also ensure that volunteers remain present at the pandals throughout the night. Trained volunteers are to be deployed to assist with security and crowd management.
Police personnel in plain clothes will keep a close watch on the Puja pandals, while the installation of CCTV cameras at every Puja venue has been made mandatory. Separate entry and exit routes for men and women must be arranged at the pandals to facilitate the smooth movement of visitors and prevent overcrowding.
The police have also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found consuming alcohol during the celebrations.
Road safety measures have been emphasised, with helmets mandatory for both motorcycle riders and pillion passengers. Special arrangements have also been made for the immersion of Durga idols at Pandu and Lachit Ghat.
The guidelines aim to ensure that the festivities are conducted in a safe, orderly and peaceful manner. Guwahati Police has urged Puja committees, organisers and visitors to cooperate with the authorities and comply with all prescribed regulations.-----------
