New Delhi, 15 October (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a commemorative tribute ceremony at its state office on Thursday to mark the birth anniversary of Madan Lal Khurana, former Chief Minister of Delhi, former president of the Delhi BJP and former Governor of Rajasthan. Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and several senior party leaders paid floral tributes at his statue and remembered his contributions to public life and politics.
On the occasion, Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, Khurana’s wife, Raj Khurana, O. P. Babbar, Mulchand Chawla, Ved Vyas Mahajan, and other senior office-bearers and party workers paid homage by garlanding his portrait and offering floral tributes. They also recalled his ideals and political legacy.
Addressing the gathering, Harsh Malhotra described Khurana as an embodiment of high ideals in Indian politics. “He was not merely a leader; he represented a set of values,” Harsh Malhotra said.
Recalling Khurana’s resignation as Delhi Chief Minister in 1995 after his name surfaced in the Jain hawala case, Harsh Malhotra said he had stepped down without hesitation. According to Harsh Malhotra, Khurana sent a clear message that character and principles must take precedence over political office.
The Delhi BJP president said Khurana was popularly known as the “Lion of Delhi” and that his voice reflected the confidence of the people of the capital. He noted that Khurana had fought for Delhi’s statehood as well as improvements in basic civic amenities. Harsh Malhotra added that Khurana commanded a distinctive standing in political circles, including among members of the Opposition.
Harsh Malhotra said Khurana’s birth anniversary should inspire everyone to pledge to carry forward his legacy of sacrifice, dedication and a political philosophy that placed the nation first.
The ceremony was also attended by Delhi BJP office-bearers Vishnu Mittal, Rajesh Bhatia, Ranjit Kashyap, Santosh Ojha, Santosh Pal, Kailash Jain and Amit Gupta, along with Khurana’s family members Shivam Chawra and Sanyam Chawra.
