Guwahati, 15 October (HS): The Assam government will expand its Nijut Moina scheme next year to cover eligible students pursuing Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing) and General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) courses, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday.

The announcement was made at a programme held at the Jyoti-Bishnu Auditorium in Guwahati, where the first instalment of financial assistance under the Nijut Moina and Nijut Babu schemes was distributed to students. The chief minister received a warm welcome from students during the event.

The proposed expansion is expected to extend financial support to eligible students pursuing professional nursing courses, helping them continue their education. However, the government is yet to announce detailed eligibility criteria and the amount of assistance that will be provided to the newly covered categories.

According to education department official Narayan Konwar, approximately 6.13 lakh girl students across Assam have benefited from the Nijut Moina scheme so far. The initiative aims to encourage girls to continue their education by providing financial assistance.

The distribution of the first instalment under both schemes ahead of Durga Puja was presented as a festive gift to students. Through these initiatives, the state government seeks to reduce financial barriers to education and encourage students to pursue their academic goals.----------
