New Delhi, 15 October (H.S.): The Indian Youth Congress staged a satyagraha at India Gate on Wednesday night, demanding justice for Ankita Bhandari. The organisation called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure that justice was delivered to Ankita and her family.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Indian Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib said that several leaders and workers of the Youth Congress and the Congress party had joined the protest at India Gate the previous night alongside Ankita Bhandari’s parents. Several people were detained on Thursday morning in connection with the demonstration but were released within an hour, he said.
Chib alleged that Ankita Bhandari’s parents had been seeking justice for the past four years, yet they themselves were being detained. Questioning the appointment of Dushyant Gautam as a governor, he said that instead of ensuring justice for Ankita’s family, the authorities were detaining her parents and Congress leaders and workers.
“Congress youth are being taken away in the very buses in which Dushyant Gautam should have been arrested and taken away,” Chib said, alleging that Ankita’s family was also being detained. He asserted that the movement would not stop until Ankita Bhandari received justice.
Targeting the Union Government, Chib said that Ankita’s parents had been demanding justice for four years, while Dushyant Gautam had been rewarded with a gubernatorial appointment. He questioned how long those responsible would continue to receive protection while Ankita was being denied justice.
Chib said the organisation would continue its fight for justice for Ankita and make every possible effort, in cooperation with her family, to ensure that justice was delivered. He reiterated his appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and ensure justice for Ankita Bhandari.
The Indian Youth Congress president warned that if Dushyant Gautam was not removed from the post of governor, the organisation would launch a nationwide agitation demanding justice for Ankita. He described the injustice suffered by Ankita as a serious matter and affirmed that the organisation would continue its campaign.
