New Delhi, 15 October (H.S.): The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Delhi government of revoking permission for a Ramlila event in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency and questioned Chief Minister Rekha Gupta over the alleged decision. Citing a video reportedly circulating on social media and allegations made by the event organisers, the party has demanded that the Chief Minister issue a public clarification.

Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters on Thursday, AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that a video circulating on social media appeared to show Rekha Gupta making an objectionable remark referring to Lord Rama. He said the Chief Minister subsequently described the video as AI-generated.

The AAP leader demanded that the Chief Minister apologise over the alleged remark. He also argued that if the video was fabricated, she should initiate legal action against those responsible.

Bharadwaj further claimed that a video featuring a father and daughter associated with a Ramlila event in the Shalimar Bagh area had emerged. According to the daughter’s account in the video, the organisers had obtained the necessary permissions from the relevant authorities and spent lakhs of rupees on preparations for the programme.

He alleged that permission for the event was revoked shortly before it was due to begin, preventing the organisers from holding it.

AAP Alleges Discrimination in Permissions for Religious Events

The AAP’s Delhi unit president alleged that discrimination was taking place in the granting of permissions for religious events and the allocation of venues. In this context, he referred not only to Ramlila celebrations but also to Kanwar camps and Chhath Puja committees.

He questioned whether the same rules were being applied consistently to different events, arguing that comparable circumstances should be treated equally when permissions were granted or withdrawn.

Bharadwaj also called for an investigation into alleged financial irregularities and demanded action against the officials concerned.

In addition, he raised questions about the government’s efforts to clean the Yamuna and the figures being presented on air pollution, adding to the party’s criticism of the Delhi government’s handling of civic and environmental issues.
