Bhubaneswar, 15 October (H.S.): Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram donned an actor’s hat on Wednesday, portraying Nishadraj , the tribal king and a key figure in the Ramayana, at the Luv Kush Ramlila held at Delhi’s Red Fort Maidan.

Oram enacted the character of Nishadraj, who welcomes Lord Ram during his exile and extends hospitality to him. The episode highlights the bond between Lord Ram and the tribal king, who bids farewell to him the following morning.

Expressing gratitude to the organisers, Oram said he felt honoured to be part of the grand Ramlila production.

“I sincerely thank all the office-bearers and members of the Luv Kush Ramlila Committee for giving me the opportunity to play the role of Nishad Raj, who was the king of the forest and a leader of tribal and backward communities,” he said.

Describing his role, the Union Minister said he had to welcome Lord Shri Ram upon his arrival during the exile and see him off the following morning. He termed the experience a memorable one.

Reflecting on his political journey, Oram said he had entered politics by chance and had never imagined reaching his present position.

“I simply thought about contesting an election and started working for the party. But the party gave me an opportunity, the people supported and liked me, and because of that, I have reached this position today,” he said.

Speaking about his acting debut, Oram said he would make every effort to do justice to the character. While acknowledging that success could not be guaranteed, he expressed confidence in his ability to portray the legendary figure.

“Since I belong to that community and am a descendant of Nishad Raj, coming from that tradition, some of his elements must be in me. Therefore, I will try, and I am confident that I will succeed,” he said.
