New Delhi, 14 October (H.S.): The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has suspended its Secretary General, Pramod Kumar, with immediate effect over allegations of abuse of authority, financial irregularities and non-cooperation with an ongoing inquiry. The federation has clarified that the suspension is an interim measure and should not be construed as a final determination of the allegations against him.
According to a statement issued by the BFI, the action has been taken under Sub-Clauses 16 and 36 of Article 24 of the federation’s constitution. Kumar has been accused of abusing his authority, failing to cooperate with the inquiry, actively obstructing the investigation, and allegedly engaging in financial irregularities and other instances of misconduct.
## Alleged Non-Cooperation in Inquiry into Championship Cancellation
In a letter issued on Tuesday, Kumar was also accused of failing to cooperate with an inquiry into the cancellation of the BFI Elite Men’s and Women’s Open Boxing Championships 2026, which had been scheduled to take place in Nahan, Himachal Pradesh, from August 16 to 23.
The letter stated that Kumar was not cooperating with an investigation into a serious matter affecting competitions organised by the federation and its institutional reputation. He was also accused of allegedly issuing unlawful and malicious notices with the purported intention of intimidating and obstructing an independent inquiry.
According to the suspension order, Kumar will not be permitted to discharge his responsibilities as Secretary General until the inquiry is completed or the order is modified or revoked by the competent authority. The action will remain subject to the provisions laid down in the BFI constitution.
## Barred from Exercising Authority and Interfering in Inquiry
During the suspension period, Kumar will not be entitled to exercise any authority, powers or responsibilities in his capacity as the federation’s Secretary General. He has also been barred from corresponding, issuing notices or communicating directives in the name of the BFI.
Furthermore, he has been directed to refrain from directly or indirectly interfering in the proceedings of the inquiry committee or attempting to influence witnesses, officials or any other individuals associated with the investigation. He has also been instructed to extend full cooperation to the committee and furnish relevant documents, records, explanations and other information whenever required.
The federation has warned that any violation of the suspension order, obstruction of the inquiry, misuse of the BFI’s authority or attempt to influence the investigative process will be treated seriously. Such conduct could invite further disciplinary action under the federation’s constitution and applicable rules.
## Suspension Follows Move to Bring No-Confidence Motion Against BFI President
The action comes against the backdrop of Kumar’s earlier move to initiate a no-confidence motion against BFI President Ajay Singh. Kumar had cited a complete breakdown of trust and alleged a serious crisis in the federation’s administration as the reasons behind the proposed motion.
Subsequently, Kumar also accused BFI President Ajay Singh and Executive Director Colonel Arun Malik of criminal intimidation in connection with alleged efforts to prevent the proposed no-confidence motion against Singh from being taken up.
The federation has reiterated that the current suspension is an interim and precautionary measure, not a final ruling on the allegations. The matter will be examined in accordance with the prescribed procedure, and the suspension will remain in force until a final decision is reached, unless the competent authority modifies or revokes the order.
