New Delhi, 14 October (H.S.): Asaduddin Owaisi, Hyderabad MP and president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the procedure adopted for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Supreme Court has agreed to hear his petition along with other pending petitions concerning the same issue on October 15.

Asaduddin Owaisi’s counsel, Nizamuddin Pasha, mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, requesting that the petition be listed alongside other cases scheduled for hearing on October 15.

During the mentioning, Pasha submitted that the petition concerns the manner in which the SIR process is being conducted. He also informed the court that the memorandum submitted with the request for listing identified the related cases with which Asaduddin Owaisi’s petition should be heard.

Asaduddin Owaisi’s petition comes amid ongoing legal challenges to the SIR process and allegations that the revision exercise could result in the deletion of voters’ names from electoral rolls.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and 10 other prominent Opposition leaders have also approached the Supreme Court, challenging the SIR process and raising concerns over alleged irregularities associated with it.
