Jorhat (Assam), 14 October (HS): Assam Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday held a meeting with Assam Agricultural University (AAU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Dipjyoti Rajkhowa and the university's Deans at the university guest house in Jorhat to discuss ways to strengthen agricultural research and improve farmers' productivity and income. Member of Parliament Kamakhya Prasad Tasa was also present at the meeting.

During the interaction, the university authorities briefed the Minister on ongoing academic programmes, research activities and various initiatives undertaken by the institution. Hazarika, in turn, outlined the Agriculture Department's priorities for enhancing farmers' capabilities, increasing agricultural productivity and strengthening the state's agricultural sector.

Emphasising the importance of scientific research in transforming agriculture, the Minister urged AAU to extend its research expertise, scientific guidance and technical assistance to the Agriculture Department. He stressed the need to convert research findings into practical, farmer-oriented solutions to address agricultural challenges and improve farmers' livelihoods.

Hazarika also highlighted the importance of closer coordination between the university and the department in bridging the gap between research and field-level implementation. He called for wider dissemination of modern agricultural technologies, improved farming techniques and sustainable agricultural practices among farmers.

The meeting underscored the role of institutional collaboration in unlocking Assam's agricultural potential. The government aims to strengthen agricultural extension services, encourage innovation and promote a productive, resilient and sustainable agricultural sector through enhanced cooperation between AAU and the Agriculture Department.---------------
