New Delhi, 14 October (H.S.):
Abhijeet Dipke, who is leading the movement of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), has appealed to people to gather at Central Park in Connaught Place on the evening of October 16 and bring the national flag.
His appeal comes following the arrest of CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka. The party alleges that the two were arrested for waving the Tricolour at Jantar Mantar.
Dipke arrived in Delhi on Wednesday morning and issued a video message on social media in the evening, urging people to join the gathering.
“My colleagues have been arrested for waving the Tricolour. We should all reach there carrying the national flag and show the government that waving the Tricolour is not a crime,” he said. He also expressed apprehension that he, too, could be arrested.
The CJP leader’s appeal follows the detention of the party’s leaders at Jantar Mantar on Tuesday. They were allegedly attempting to stage a protest in an area that had not been designated for demonstrations, in violation of the terms of their bail bonds.
