Silchar (Assam), 14 October (HS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organised a ‘Jan Jagaran Samavesh’ rally in Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district on Wednesday, with more than 25,000 supporters participating in the event, according to the party. National unity was a key theme of the gathering, where BJP leaders criticised the Congress over its alleged divisive politics and reiterated their support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Assam Minister Kaushik Rai, Rajya Sabha MPs K. Purkayastha and Sushmita Dev, Lok Sabha MP Parimal Suklabaidya, MLAs Rajdeep Gowala and Rajdeep Roy, and Amiyo Kanti Das were among the prominent leaders who attended the programme. A rally was also taken out through the streets of Silchar.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Kaushik Rai criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and accused the party of pursuing divisive and anti-national politics. He said people across the country had continued to extend their support to Prime Minister Modi.
BJP MLA Rajdeep Gowala also targeted the Congress, referring to Rahul Gandhi’s alleged treatment of a senior party colleague and claiming that it reflected his attitude towards others.
Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev challenged the Congress’s claims of widespread public support, describing the turnout at the Cachar rally as evidence of support for Modi and Sarma. She also referred to the BJP’s recent rally in Nagaon, citing the participation of supporters as another indication of the party’s public backing.
The gathering was part of the BJP’s public outreach campaign in Assam, with party leaders using the platform to criticise the Congress and reaffirm their confidence in the leadership of Modi and Sarma.
