Mumbai, 14 October (H.S.): Ajay Devgn’s ‘Drishyam 3’ is reportedly performing strongly at the box office, but director Abhishek Pathak has ruled out extending the franchise further for now. He has made it clear that the story has reached its conclusion and there are currently no plans to make a fourth instalment. According to Pathak, the decision to extend a franchise cannot be based solely on its commercial success.
In a conversation, Pathak expressed hope that October 2 would continue to be celebrated as ‘Drishyam Day’ in the years to come. He said audiences were enjoying the film and actively discussing it, but maintained that the narrative had been brought to a close.
The director said several people had been asking him about the possibility of a fourth instalment. However, he emphasised that extending the story simply for the sake of making another film was not the objective. He considers the ending of the current instalment appropriate for the franchise and believes the story has reached a natural conclusion.
Pathak also expressed satisfaction with the film’s performance during its second weekend at the box office. According to him, the film earned more than ₹60 crore during that period alone, a figure that exceeds the lifetime collections of several other films.
Released on October 2, ‘Drishyam 3’ sees Ajay Devgn reprise his role as Vijay Salgaonkar. The film also features Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta and Jaideep Ahlawat in significant roles.
Despite the film’s reported box-office success and continued audience interest, Pathak’s remarks indicate that he is not inclined to extend the franchise merely to capitalise on its popularity. For now, the filmmaker appears content to let the story conclude with the latest instalment rather than pursue a sequel without a compelling narrative reason.
