Hyderabad, 13 October (H.S.): Hyderabad made a commanding start to their Ranji Trophy 2026–27 campaign, defeating Tripura by an innings and 40 runs under the leadership of Mohammed Siraj. On Tuesday, the third day of the match, Tripura lost their remaining three wickets after adding just 14 runs to their overnight score in the second innings, handing Hyderabad a comprehensive victory.

Tripura resumed the third day's play at 107 for seven in their second innings. However, the team managed to add only 14 runs in 6.2 overs before losing its remaining wickets. Hyderabad had established a firm grip on the contest on the second day, with half-centuries from Tanmay Agarwal and debutant Ruthik Yadav helping the team gain a substantial advantage.

Siraj and Ruthik Strike in Second Innings

Tripura's second innings remained under pressure from the outset as Hyderabad's bowlers struck at regular intervals, preventing the opposition batters from settling at the crease. Mohammed Siraj and Ruthik Yadav also picked up wickets to strengthen Hyderabad's position.

In the final session, Sentu Sarkar and Parvez Sultan offered some resistance and briefly delayed Hyderabad's push for an innings victory. However, their efforts were insufficient to prevent Tripura from suffering a heavy defeat.

Tanay Thyagarajan Claims Nine Wickets

Left-arm spinner Tanay Thyagarajan played a decisive role in Hyderabad's victory. He claimed six wickets in the second innings, taking his match tally to nine wickets and delivering an impressive performance.

Siraj, who went wicketless in the first innings, returned to claim two wickets in Tripura's second innings.

Hyderabad Dominate with Bat and Ball

Batting first, Hyderabad scored 294 runs in their first innings. In reply, Tripura were dismissed for 134 runs in their first innings before managing only 120 in the second.

The result gave Hyderabad victory by an innings and 40 runs, underlining their dominance with both bat and ball. The convincing win marks an encouraging beginning to their Ranji Trophy campaign and signals their intent for the new domestic season.
