New Delhi, 13 October (H.S.): Lawyers gathered at the premises of the Supreme Court of India on Tuesday to protest against the police arrest of advocates during a demonstration against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During the protest, they recited the Preamble to the Constitution and expressed solidarity with the detained lawyers and citizens who had participated in peaceful demonstrations.
The lawyers condemned the detention of their colleagues and others involved in the protests. Those participating in the demonstration said their objective was to reaffirm their commitment to constitutional values and oppose the detention of lawyers exercising their right to peaceful protest.
The protesting advocates also underscored the importance of safeguarding the independence and integrity of constitutional institutions. They emphasised that political differences should not weaken their shared commitment to the Constitution and its fundamental principles.
