Guwahati, 13 October (HS): Senior Congress leader Ripun Bora has questioned the leadership of Gaurav Gogoi following the party’s defeat in the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, describing the outcome as extremely unfortunate and calling for serious introspection within the party.

Reacting to the election result, Bora said the party had not expected such an outcome. He also expressed concern over the apparent shift in support among minority voters, who, according to him, had traditionally voted for the Congress.

“We did not expect such a result. It is extremely unfortunate,” Bora said, highlighting the need to examine the reasons behind the party’s defeat.

Bora further said that minority voters had consistently supported the Congress in previous elections, making their voting behaviour in the Nagaon by-election a matter of concern for the party.

“Why did the minority community not vote for us this time? This is a matter that needs serious consideration,” he said.

The Congress leader stressed that the party must undertake a detailed review of the election outcome and engage in serious deliberations to understand the reasons behind the setback. His remarks have also brought the question of leadership under Gaurav Gogoi into focus amid the party’s efforts to assess its electoral performance.---------------
