New Delhi, 13 October (H.S.): India has asserted that no amount of denial by China over Ladakh will change the established fact that the Union Territory is an integral and inalienable part of India.

The statement came in response to China’s objection to India’s decision to identify 28 locations and geographical features in Ladakh with standardised names on the official maps of the Survey of India. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning had stated that China did not recognise Ladakh and strongly opposed the standardised names issued by India for locations in the region.

Responding to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s remarks, the official spokesperson of India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement, saying that the announcement made by the Ministry of Home Affairs was self-explanatory.

The announcement stated that 28 locations and geographical features situated in the Union Territory of Ladakh had been marked with standardised names on the official maps of the Survey of India. The exercise was carried out in consultation with the Union Territory administration of Ladakh and local stakeholders.

According to the announcement, the formal identification of these locations on the Survey of India’s official map of the Union Territory of Ladakh is intended to facilitate their accurate identification and enhance public awareness of these places.

India’s response reaffirmed its position that objections raised by China would not alter the established status of Ladakh as an integral and inalienable part of the country.
