Bhubaneswar, 13 October (H.S.): Odisha is likely to experience another spell of rain during the ongoing Durga Puja festivities, with a low-pressure area expected to form over the Bay of Bengal on Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The developing weather system may bring rainfall to several parts of the state over the next few days, with the intensity likely to increase on October 14 and 15.
According to the IMD, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently prevailing over the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards, although its precise track and intensity will become clearer over the next 24 to 48 hours.
The changing weather conditions may lead to cloudy skies and light to moderate rainfall in parts of Odisha from Monday evening. On October 14 and 15, some areas may experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds along with rain.
The distribution and intensity of rainfall across different districts will depend on the movement and development of the low-pressure system, the weather agency indicated.
The forecast has raised concerns among Durga Puja organisers, traders and shoppers, as preparations for the festival are progressing rapidly across the state. Construction and decoration of puja pandals are underway in various cities, while markets are witnessing preparations for the festive shopping rush.
Rain during the crucial days of the festivities could disrupt pandal decoration, outdoor arrangements and shopping activities. Organisers and traders will be closely monitoring the weather situation as the low-pressure system develops over the Bay of Bengal.
