New Delhi, 13 October (H.S.):

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Dr L. Murugan has announced his resignation from the Union Council of Ministers and the Rajya Sabha. He has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard and shared it on social media.

In his post, Murugan described his journey from being the son of a daily-wage labourer in a village in Tamil Nadu to becoming a Union Minister as the greatest privilege of his life. He said he would now devote his full time and attention to strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party’s organisation and its cadre in Tamil Nadu, with a particular focus on preparing for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Crediting Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for his political journey, Murugan also highlighted his association with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the BJP.

“I now want to return to the grassroots, stand alongside our party workers and dedicate my full time to strengthening the BJP in Tamil Nadu ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections,” he said.

Notably, Murugan’s Rajya Sabha tenure from Madhya Pradesh was scheduled to end in 2030. He became a Minister of State in Prime Minister Modi’s Union Council of Ministers in 2021, during the latter’s second term, and continued in the same capacity following Modi’s return to office for a third term in 2024.
