- Focus on Early Detection of Congenital Defects, Malnutrition, Mental Health Issues and Diabetes
Guwahati, 13 October (HS): Assam Health and Family Welfare Minister Ashok Singhal on Tuesday launched the guidelines of the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) 2.0 at Pragjyotish Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati, emphasising early detection and timely treatment of health problems among children.
The initiative aims to strengthen child healthcare services in the state and ensure the overall health, development and well-being of children. Under RBSK 2.0, special attention will be given to the early identification of congenital defects, malnutrition, diseases and developmental delays. The programme will also focus on emerging health concerns, including mental health issues, diabetes, hypertension and other medical conditions affecting children.
Addressing the programme, Singhal stressed that early identification of health problems would facilitate timely medical intervention and help reduce complications in later life. He said child healthcare was not the sole responsibility of the Health Department but a collective responsibility involving the government, families, schools and society.
The minister also highlighted the importance of proper nutrition, personal hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices in ensuring children's well-being. He called for strengthening health club activities in schools to raise awareness among students about nutrition, mental wellness, physical activity and healthy habits.
Singhal underscored the need for better coordination among the Health Department, medical institutions, educational institutions and other concerned departments to ensure effective implementation of the programme. He said children identified with health problems during screenings should receive appropriate treatment and necessary follow-up care.
The programme seeks to make child health screening more effective by ensuring that identified medical conditions are addressed through timely treatment and continued healthcare support.
The event began with the rendition of the Assam State Anthem and the lighting of a ceremonial lamp. The Executive Director of the National Health Mission delivered the welcome address.
NHM Mission Director Dr Lakshmanan S, Director of Medical Education Dr Manoj Kumar Choudhury and Principal of Pragjyotish Medical College and Hospital Dr Basanta Kumar Baishya, along with senior Health Department officials, attended the programme.------------
