Vijayawada, 13 October (H.S.): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will meet his Tamil Nadu counterpart C. Joseph Vijay in Vijayawada on Tuesday to discuss Krishna River water sharing and other inter-state issues, including river-linking projects.
According to the proposed schedule, Vijay will leave Chennai at 2 pm and arrive at Gannavaram Airport at 3.30 pm. The meeting with Naidu is scheduled for 4.15 pm. The discussions are expected to focus on the supply of Krishna water to Tamil Nadu, particularly for meeting Chennai's drinking water requirements.
Under the Telugu Ganga Project agreement, Andhra Pradesh is to supply 12 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of water annually to Tamil Nadu. Of this, eight TMC is to be supplied from Kandaleru Dam between July and October, while the remaining four TMC is scheduled for delivery between January and April. However, complaints have persisted over Tamil Nadu not receiving the agreed quantity of water.
The two chief ministers are also expected to discuss concerns over the construction of dams across rivers flowing from Andhra Pradesh into Tamil Nadu. The issue has drawn attention amid concerns that such projects could affect the flow of water into the neighbouring state.
During his visit, Vijay is also scheduled to offer prayers at the Kanaka Durga Temple and attend the cultural event 'Vijayawada Utsav 2.0' at 8 pm.
Vijay had earlier planned to visit Karnataka for discussions with then Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar on the Cauvery water dispute and the Mekedatu dam project. The visit was cancelled after Shivakumar requested him to call it off following opposition to the proposed visit within Karnataka.
