Bhubaneswar, 13 October (H.S.) : Refractive errors and computer vision syndrome are increasingly affecting young people, highlighting the need for healthy visual habits and regular eye check-ups, said AIIMS Bhubaneswar Executive Director Dr Ashutosh Biswas.

The Department of Ophthalmology at AIIMS Bhubaneswar attends to around 230–250 patients daily, with a monthly patient footfall of approximately 5,000–6,000. Common eye conditions treated at the institute include refractive errors, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and computer vision syndrome, Dr Biswas said.

He cautioned that several eye conditions, if left undiagnosed or untreated, can lead to severe visual impairment or blindness. However, timely diagnosis and appropriate medical intervention can prevent, manage or treat many cases of vision loss.

To raise awareness about eye health and promote universal access to quality eye care, the Department of Ophthalmology at AIIMS Bhubaneswar organised a series of awareness and community-oriented activities .
