New Delhi, 12 October (H.S.): The Supreme Court has clarified that it has neither approved nor rejected the Election Commission of India’s new Form 6. A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant said that its earlier observations should not be misconstrued or interpreted incorrectly.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioner submitted that the Election Commission was claiming that the new Form 6 had received the Supreme Court’s approval. In response, Justice Joymalya Bagchi observed that the new Form 6 had not even been introduced when the Court was hearing the case concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. He cautioned against drawing incorrect conclusions from the Court’s earlier observations.

The Court noted that the issue had been brought to its attention and said it would be considered on October 27, along with the main petitions.

The Supreme Court was also hearing another petition filed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Court directed that the petition be tagged with other similar petitions for joint consideration.
