Guwahati, 12 October (HS): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded the unloading of 1,094 freight rakes across its jurisdiction in September 2026, maintaining steady freight operations and ensuring the continued supply of essential and industrial commodities across the region.

During the month, various goods sheds handled food grains, food-grade items, fertilizers, sugar, coal, salt, tank wagons and other commodities. The efficient handling of these goods helped facilitate timely distribution and strengthen the reliability of freight transportation services.

Assam accounted for the highest share of freight unloading, with 585 rakes handled during the month. The movement of these commodities plays a crucial role in supporting the public distribution system, industrial operations and the daily requirements of consumers across the state.

Among other northeastern states, Tripura recorded the unloading of 102 rakes, followed by Manipur with 28, Nagaland with 15, Arunachal Pradesh with six and Mizoram with five rakes.

Outside the Northeast, West Bengal registered the unloading of 208 freight rakes, while Bihar accounted for 145 rakes carrying essential and non-essential commodities. The movement of goods through these states has helped strengthen regional supply chains, trade connectivity and economic activities.

NFR said continuous transportation of essential and other commodities remains vital for meeting public needs and supporting economic growth. Effective monitoring at different levels has also helped reduce turnaround time and improve unloading efficiency across the railway zone.-------
