Imphal, 12 October (HS): Manipur Police have arrested an active insurgent and two alleged drug peddlers in three separate operations conducted in different parts of the state, recovering suspected heroin and brown sugar, officials said on Monday.

According to an official statement issued by the Manipur Police Headquarters, a team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CDO), Imphal East, launched an anti-narcotics operation near the Muslim Girls' Hostel on Hatta JNIMS Road under Porompat police station on October 11, acting on specific intelligence inputs.

During the operation, the team arrested Mohammed Amjad Khan alias Mumu (29), a resident of Kwakta Tera Khong Maning in Bishnupur district, from his rented accommodation. Police recovered two plastic bottles containing approximately 62 grams of suspected heroin No. 4 powder and six tramadol capsules from his possession.

During questioning, the accused reportedly stated that he had procured the heroin from a drug supplier in Churachandpur and was selling it to local drug users in Hatta, Imphal East and adjoining areas.

In another operation on the same day, a CDO team from Imphal West arrested Rocky Pukhrambam (20), alias Keifa, an active cadre of the RPF/PLA insurgent outfit. The arrest was made during a search operation in the Khurai Lamlong area under Porompat police station, based on specific intelligence inputs.

Meanwhile, on October 10, a joint team of CDO Bishnupur and Moirang police seized approximately 3.5 kg of suspected brown sugar during a search and checking operation at Okshobung on Tiddim Road under Moirang police station. Mohammed Abir Khan (46) was arrested in connection with the seizure. A Hero Destini 125 two-wheeler was also seized.
